Abstract

The Prevent Injury and Enhance Program (PEP FIFA 11+) included warm up running, strength, plyometric and balance training in football players. It could be a supplementary program for reducing the risk of injury. Therefore, it is interesting to design the functional training, core strength training incorporating with PEP FIFA 11+. This study aimed to investigate the effect of modified PEP FIFA 11+ on sport-specific performance and passing skills and determine the correlation between sport-specific performance and passing skills in male soccer. Twenty-two male soccer players aged 18-23 years old were participated and divided into control group (n=10) and intervention group (n = 12). The intervention group (FIFA) was training modified PEP FIFA 11+ incorporate with regular soccer training 4 days/week for 8 weeks. They were assessed sport the specific fitness using SPARQ tests and passing skill performance using LSPT before and after 8 weeks of training. The results showed the FIFA group had significantly better SPARQ and LSPT than the control group did after training. However, the change of performance (post-pretest) was demonstrated only the standing vertical jump test and arrowhead agility test in the FIFA group significantly better than the control group (p< 0.05). Furthermore, the sport specific performance was significant moderate correlated with the passing skills (r= 0.32- 0.52, p < 0.05). Thus, the modified PEP FIFA 11+ form this study could enhance the sport specific performance and passing skill. It can be recommended as a guideline for supplementary programs to enhance sport specific fitness in soccer players.
