GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF MUAYTHAI SPORTS TOURISM IN THE EASTERN REGION

Abstract
This research aimed 1) to examine the potential of Muay Thai sports tourism in the eastern region, 2) to examine the demand for Muay Thai sports tourism in the eastern region, and 3) to prepare guidelines for development and promotion of Muay Thai sports tourism in the eastern region. It employed a mixed method by using qualitative research. Simples were 15 experts in the government and private sectors, as well as 420 Thai and foreign tourists. The research instruments were a Muay Thai sports tourism potential assessment, the In-depth interview, the demand of tourists in Muay Thai sports tourism questionnaire and the appropriateness evaluation for developing and promoting Muay Thai sports tourism in the eastern region. The data were analyzed to determine the percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.
The findings indicated that the potential for Muay Thai sports tourism in the eastern region was excellent, scoring 71.51 points. The demand for the potential of Muay Thai sports tourism was found that the tourists needed activities potential most, regarding the Muay Thai tourism. ( = 4.61, S.D. = 0.66)
Guidelines for development and promotion were found that 1) In terms of attracting tourists a boxing arena, revive traditional festivals, should be built historical attractions should be restored and developed. 2) In terms of facilities, facilities should be established for those with special needs, and install natural disaster warning signs. 3) Accommodation services, there should be a room for exercising and equipment that is ready to use. 4) In terms of tourism activities Wai Khru Muay Thai activities and recreational activities should be insertedinto Muay Thai sports. 5) In terms of personnel, personnel should be developed to know foreign languages, the government sector should prioritize the development of enough personnel to cater to the needs of tourists, while the private sector should focus on building a network of promoters to work collaboratively, and 6) In terms of public relations, online public relations should be encouraged, and the National Muay Thai Museum should be established as a centre for information, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about Muay Thai.
