Abstract

Background: Safe Surgery in Bangkok Hospital Phuket are guideline to practice in the same direction, implementation of the policies requires collaboration among cross functional team, including the operation team, anesthetist, surgical team and orthopedic team. The operation team is the center for collecting data and indicators which have to summarized and pass forward the information to related parties every month, which the processes from collecting data, summarizing the data, analyzing the data sending information take a long time.

Objective: To develop quality of information: surgical patients linked to policies-based indicators. To assure actively (nearly real-time) surgical information. To access information easily. To develop tools preoperative assessment monitoring for patient safety.

Material and methods: The Quality Improvement department started developing the system under the concept of design thinking with a team of patient care surgery & orthopedic team, and representatives from the clinical leadership team as well as developing an online surgical patient database from the Microsoft 365 suite of applications by collecting data in OneDrive, saving data in Microsoft Excel Online, processing and displaying results through Microsoft Power BI and shows dashboard in administrative Huddle meeting every day in order to help organizations make accurate decisions.

Result: The result shows that Safe Surgery Dashboard can reduce the time to summarize the safe surgery data from 40 days to 1 day. The summary of the indicators can be demonstrated via Power BI nearly real-time and develop tools preoperative assessment monitoring. The rate of surgical patients assessed for venous thromboembolism (VTE) before surgery increased from 20% to 96%, and is currently a pilot study on PCT surgery & orthopedic

Conclusion: Safe surgery dashboard can be beneficial in many aspects especially for the organization that is very helpful to monitor closely for adverse events in order prevent these surgical adverse event. The future project will extend to another patient care team.
