Gerotranscendence theory in older adults: Knowledge for nursing the older adults

Currently, many countries around the world are transitioning into an aging society. Knowledge in caring for the elderly therefore plays an important role for nurses and health teams. They result in development guidelines that sustainably raise the quality of life for older adults. Gerotranscendence in older adults is a condition where older adults understand and accept the phenomena of life. Therefore, nurses have a role in promoting gerotranscendence. Older adults have life satisfaction and accept the deterioration of the body. They understand the truth in their own lives and are able to live happily, both physically and mentally. This article aims to provide nurses with knowledge and understanding about concept development, components, and factors affecting the state of gerotranscendence, assessment tools for practicing gerotranscendence theory, and nursing care applying the gerotranscendence theory to care for older adults physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
