ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT AND LEADERSHIP SOFT SKILLS AFFECTING THE MONITORING AND CONTROL ROLES AMONG THE DIRECTORS OF THE SUB-DISTRICT HEALTH PROMOTING HOSPITALS IN KHON KAEN PROVINCE

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study the organizational support and leadership soft skills affecting the monitoring and control roles among the directors of the sub-district health promoting hospitals in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. The study population consisted of 248 directors at sub-district health promoting hospitals, selected by using stratified random sampling, with a sample size of 162 participants. and the return rate of questionnaires received from 140 people is 86.42 %. The research tools included a quantitative questionnaire for data collection, validated by three experts, with all items having a content validity index of 1 The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.97. In addition, a semi-structured interview guidelines was used for qualitative data collection with 14 participants. Data was collected from December 25th, 2024, to January 31st, 2025. The statistical analysis included descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of 0.05. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.97. In addition, an in-depth interview guideline were used for qualitative data collection with 14 participants. Data was collected from December 25^th, 2024, to January 31^st, 2025. The statistical analysis included descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of 0.05. The study found that the overall levels of organizational support, leadership soft skills, and the monitoring and control roles of the health promoting hospital directors in Khon Kaen province were high, with mean scores of 4.06 (S.D.=0.37), 4.08 (S.D.=0.43), and 3.93 (S.D.=0.43), respectively. Both organizational support and leadership soft skills showed a high and statistically significant relationship with the monitoring and control role of the health promoting hospital directors
(r = 0.710, p-value < 0.001) and (r=0.816, p-value < 0.001), respectively. Additionally, the five variables consisted of soft skills leadership in presentation skills, leadership, planning and organizational management, organizational support in terms of materials and equipment, and leadership soft skills in teamwork affected and could jointly predict the monitoring and control of directors at sub-district health promoting hospitals in Khon Kaen Province at 76.9 percentage, (R² = 0.769, p-value < 0.001)
