This retrospective matched case-control study aimed to investigate factors associated with peripheral phlebitis in neonates receiving intravenous fluids in the pediatric intensive unit at Mukdahan hospital. A total of 120 neonates were included (case 40, control 80), matched by gestational age. Data were collected from medical record between October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025. Research instrument included data extraction form and phlebitis assessment records, with Index of items-objective congruence > 0.50, Content validity index of 0.89 and Inter-rater reliability (Cohen’s Kappa) of 0.89. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis with conditional logistic regression and multivariable logistic regression with Firth’s penalized logistic regression. The results showed that DN/5 solution (Adj.OR=136.29, 95% CI: 20.70–897.16, p<0.001) and changing IV site after 72 hours (Adj.OR=18.41, 95% CI: 1.03–327.77, p=0.047) were statistically significantly associated with peripheral phlebitis in neonates receiving intravenous fluids. while other variables were not statistically significant. This finding can be to monitor the administration of hypertonic solutions and be used to develop model of clinical practice guideline and nursing for prevention and caring of peripheral phlebitis in neonates.
