Abstract

This one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental study aimed to compare the effects of a LINE Official Account (LINE OA) application on knowledge, attitudes, and intention to use electronic cigarettes among 39 undergraduate students from an educational institution in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. Participants were recruited through voluntary sampling based on the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention consisted of the LINE OA “V-Free” application. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire, an attitude questionnaire, an intention to use e-cigarettes questionnaire, and a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the LINE OA “V-Free” application. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to compare pretest and posttest scores.

The results showed that participants' knowledge scores regarding e-cigarettes significantly increased after the intervention (W = 60.00, p-value < 0.001), with a large effect size (r .83), indicating that the LINE OA “V-Free” application effectively enhanced participants' knowledge of e-cigarettes. However, no statistically significant difference was found in attitudes toward e-cigarettes (W = 242.50, p-value = 0.23, r = 0.23). In addition, no change was observed in participants' intention to use e-cigarettes before and after the intervention. These findings suggest that the LINE OA “V-Free” application can serve as an effective educational tool for improving e-cigarette knowledge among undergraduate students, particularly in educational institutions with limited personnel or educational resources.
