The Developmental Model of Herbal Plants and Arena Protection Planning based on Community Participation in Phu Tapoa forest Samsuan Bantan Chaiyaphum

Abstract

The objective of this study was to explore medicinal plant species and community development in the development of the formulation of the herb protection plan and participatory herb area in the Phu Taphao, Community Forest Sam Suan, Ban Thaen, Chaiyaphum. The sample comprised of 84 government organizations and villagers in the surrounding villages. The instruments included community forest survey form and community development questionnaire for the development of herbs protection plan. This study used behavior observation forms and interviewed community forest societies. Qualitative data were classified and summarized important points according to the actual conditions that occurred.

The results of the community forest survey found that 122 herbs were classified as follows; three herbs species were valuable to study, fourteen economically important herbs, and twenty species of herbs that could become extinct. The results of community development using A-I-C technique and SWOT analysis showed that the samples were knowledgeable in community forest law, and laws on the protection of herbs are increasing and most think that leaders are the key to reflect the strength of the community.

The results of the analysis of the environment, and the development of the internal protection plan model, found that the strengths are the same community creating awareness in protecting the herbs together. The weakness was that the samples lack knowledge in law, knowledge supporting, budget, unclear herbal protection plans and no systematic monitoring. The opportunities were the Subdistrict Administrative Organization paid attention and supported the budget, integrated work with related departments, supported knowledge, skills, and technology for effective implementation of the plan. The obstacles were ignorance rules for people outside the community, not interested in participating the planning process. The preparation of herbal protection participated plans may include components that are co-thinking, co-planning, co-operating, contributing follow-up and evaluation, and participate in benefits by brainstorming, thus obtaining four main programs for herbal protection.
