Health Literacy on Medical Cannabis use among Cancer Patients in the Northeast of Thailand

Abstract

The cross-sectional analytical research was aimed to determine a health literacy and factor associated with health literacy on medical cannabis use. The sample in this study was cancer patient in northeast region 1,193 individuals which obtained from multistage random sampling method. Data collection performed by using structured questionnaire. And analyze the data with descriptive statistic as well as Multiple logistics regression at the level of 0.05. Result was presented with Adjusted Odd Ratio together with 95 % Confidence interval (CI) and p-value.

The study result revealed that the majority of the sample were female 72.25%, graduate at primary education 53.14%, marriage 74.27%, agriculturist 49.04, has adequate health literacy on medical cannabis use 53.48%. For an evaluation in each aspect found that on information accessibility, understanding, analysis, interpretation, health information assessment and implementing health information were in adequate level by 45.85%, 64.04%, 48.78%, and 50.80% respectively. Factor associated with a health literacy on medical cannabis use with statistically significant at the level of 0.05 are gender (Adjusted OR=1.26, 95 % CI= 1.10 - 1.62; P-value =0.031), average monthly income (Adjusted OR=2.10, 95 % CI = 1.60 - 2.69; P-value <0.001), attitude toward medical cannabis use (Adjusted OR= 1.75, 95 % CI = 1.36 - 2.25; P-value <0.001) and an acknowledgment of medical cannabis information from internet (Adjusted OR=2.20, 95 % CI = 1.67 - 2.80; P-value <0.001). Therefore, the health literacy on medical cannabis should be strengthened among cancer patient. As well as an attitude and acknowledgement channel on medical cannabis information.
