Effects of health literacy and health behavior promotion program among village health volunteers in Thongchai Nuea Subdistrict, Pak Thong Chai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of a health literacy and health behavior promotion program among village health volunteers in Thongchai Nuea Subdistrict, Pak Thong Chai District, Nakhon Ratchasima province. Study was carried out in the one group pretest and posttest design. The sample group consisted of 32 village health volunteers who were selected by purposive sampling. The experimental tools were health literacy and health behavior promotion programs. The data collection tools were the health behavior and health literacy assessment form according to the principle of 3E.2S. which consisted of the general information and the six dimensions of the health literacy, health cognition, access to health information and services, health communication, self management, media and information literacy, correct discrimination decisions, revised edition in 2018 by the Department of Health Service Support, Ministry of Public Health. Data were analyzed by frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation and comparing mean differences with paired samples t-test.
The results showed that village health volunteers had the mean scores of health literacy in all six dimensions and health behavior according to the principle of 3E.2S. after the experiment were statistically significantly higher than before the experiment (p-value < 0.05) This study showed that health literacy according to the principle of 3E.2S. can improve the health behaviors among village health volunteers significantly. Therefore, relevant agencies should continuously promote health literacy among village health volunteers in order to create sustainable good health behaviors. For further research suggestion should be added to control group in the experiment in order to develop research to be more reliable.
