Development of Risk Management Model for the Safety Rights Protection of Health Care Providers in the Community Hospitals, Phetchabun, Thailand.

Abstract

The action research aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the risk management model for personal safety protection among healthcare providers (HCP) in the community hospitals in Phetchabun Province. The mixed method was performed to collect data. Research procedures were designed for 4 phases; (1) Explored the situation (2) Draft of the risk management development (3) Approval of Risk Management Model 4) Examine the effectiveness of Risk Management Model. Nine Hospital directors and Risk Management Committee 90 were recruited by purposive sampling. Health care providers were stratified sampling for 233 participants. Research tools are composed of record forms, questionnaires, in-depth interview guidelines, and focus group guideline . Statistical analysis was used descriptive, paired t-tests, Chi-square and content analysis for qualitative data.

First phase was found running up of medical complaint continuously. Moreover, personal safety competency based on age, period of working, in-come and safety components significantly. The in-depth of problem were spot light to the legal skills of health care provider and blur vision of personal safety policy. On process, we developed the “PROMISE Model” for 3 sections at the first for early protection adverse event as P: Prevention. Secondly, responding adverse event were included 4 components; (1) R: Referral by integrated operational teams (O: Operation Teams) going on guidelines of adverse events management (M: Management) and information approval (I: Information). Finally, after the incident occurred on helping the mental complaint and mediation to resolve problems. Medical Litigation Assistance and remedies human rights composed of S: Support and E: Evaluation in all steps. The effectiveness of the PROMISE Model was found the significantly improving knowledge, attitude, the components of personal safety, and safety competency with comparison before and after (p-value< 0.001). Participants reported highly satisfied with the elements, clarity, and practical. Moreover, we faced the reduction of adverse events significantly (p-value<0.05). “PROMISE Model” present the effectiveness protection of personal safety which was strengthen generalized to other organization as well.
