Effectiveness of Implementing Clinical Practice Guideline for Patient Triage in Emergency Department, Nonsung Hospital.

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental study aimed at effectiveness of Implementing Clinical Practice Guideline for Patient Triage  in Emergency Department,  Nonsung Hospital.  The research population consisted of 12 professional nurses working in emergency, trauma, and forensic nursing. The sample group included 800 patients receiving care in these departments, with data collected from 400 patients before the system was developed and from another 400 patients after its implementation. The evaluation compared pre- and post-development outcomes in terms of the accuracy of patient triage, waiting time, and nurse satisfaction using descriptive statistics and Chi-square analysis.

The results revealed that the accuracy of patient triage significantly improved after implementing the system .002 (= .968, df= 1, p-value = .002). Nurses’ overall satisfaction with the triage system was high, with an average score of    = 3.93. The waiting time for patients significantly decreased, with an average time of  = 27.78 , S.D. = 18.333, and they were most satisfied with the current triage system        (  = 4.33). However, satisfaction with the facilities, equipment, and tools used for triage had the lowest average score (  = 3.58). allowing for faster and more efficient medical care. This study demonstrates the high effectiveness of the triage system at Non Sung Hospital's emergency department, showing increased accuracy, reduced waiting times, and improved staff satisfaction. It is recommended to consider adopting this system in other settings to enhance the efficiency of medical services, improve service quality, and increase patient safety.
