Factor Associated with Urinary Tract Infection in Pediatric 2 Months to 5 Years Old

Currently the problem of urinary tract infections is found in many young patients the researchers therefore studied factors associated with urinary tract infections in pediatric patients aged 2 months to 5 years to reduce the problem of urinary tract infections in pediatric patients. This research objective to study the factors and causative pathogen associated with urinary tract infection (UTI) and study the susceptibility of pathogens to antibiotics in pediatric patients 2 months - 5 years of age. Study retrospective medical record in pediatric patients 2 months - 5 years old diagnosed urinary tract infection and receiving Laboratory examination include Complete blood count, Urinalysis (UA) and Urine culture (UC) between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2022 at the Department of Pediatrics. Somdej- phrajaotaksinmaharaj Hospital, a total of 77 cases. Data analyzed by descriptive statistics include; mean and percent, inferential statistics such as Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, statistical significance at 0.05.
The results found a total of 77 patients were divided into 2 groups include; ages 2 months to 2 years group have 59 patients (76.6%) and aged 2 - 5 years group have 18 patients (23.4 %). The factors associated with urinary tract infections in children aged 2 months to 5 years were UTI symptoms, duration of fever before being admitted to the hospital, maximum reported tempera- ture in hospital and white blood cell counts in the urine. The most common causative pathogen is Escherichia coli, highest sensitive to aminoglycoside.
