Abstract

Dementia in the elderly is a significant problem affecting all aspects of daily life. It results from the degeneration of brain tissue, Causes cognitive impairments, memory, reasoning, decision-making, mood, personality, and various behaviors. This impacts daily living. The treatment for dementia is supportive care, aimed at maintaining the ability to perform daily activities independently for as long as possible. Caring for elderly people with dementia is long-term care. Family caregivers at home must understand and face various challenges in care, including behavioral issues, memory problems, safety concerns, and caregiver stress leading to burnout. This article aims to provide knowledge and understanding in caring for elderly people with dementia at home using the nursing process from a case study. The goal is to maintain the quality of life to the greatest extent possible for both the elderly and the caregivers.
