Factors Related to Quality of Life in Patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease Receiving Hemodialysis During Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: This descriptive correlational research, aimed to examine the quality of life (QOL) and factors related to quality of life in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving hemodialysis (HD) during coronavirus pandemic. Methods: Purposive sampling was used to recruit 85 participants. The questionnaires used to collect the data included demographic characteristics, management of patient HD during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the World Health Organization Quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) (Thai Translated version). The data were statistically analyzed according to descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, point biserial correlation and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Results: The overall score of quality of life was at a moderate level (M = 88.02, SD =13.45). Age was significantly negatively correlated with QOL (r = -.27, p < .05), educational level was significantly positively correlated with QOL (r = .33, p < .01) and income was significantly positively correlated with QOL (r = .24, p < .05). There were no statistically significant correlations between gender, dialysis frequency/week, receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, transportation modality to dialysis and QOL. Conclusion: Nurses and other health care providers should have a good understanding of QOL assessment and various factors that affect the QOL in order to develop nursing care to improve QOL in patients with ESKD receiving HD during coronavirus pandemic.
