Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop the intramuscular injection model (IMImodel) for nursing students and to evaluate the effectiveness of IMImodel. The study was conducted in 3 phases. In phase 1 create and develop the IMImodel. In phase 2 create and develop a satisfaction evaluation form. In phase 3 examine the effectiveness of IMImodel by exploring the satisfaction of nursing students on using IMImodel. Collect the data by administered to the 60 subjects, to whom were second year nursing students. The descriptive statistic was use to analyze the data that are based on frequency, percentage, and mean.

The results showed that nursing students rated satisfaction of using IMImodel for deltoid muscle and gluteal muscle very satisfied in all aspects. The creativity and application dimension was rated the highest mean score, while the reality dimension was rated the lowest mean score. Nursing students rated using IMImodel for deltoid muscle were more satisfied than using IMImodel for gluteal muscle (M = 4.48, SD = 0.57; M = 4.33, SD = 0.57, respectively).

This research suggested that a IMImodel acted as a part task trainer suitable for nursing students used to practice psychomotor skill in the nursing skill laboratory. Sufficient model for practice can enhance nursing students’ skill and self-confidence when they practices in real clinical setting.
