Abstract

Objective: This research aimed to study the effects of Family System Theory group counseling on family strength of Diabetes Mellitus patient family. Materials and Methods: The research was experiment design. The sample composed of ten Diabetes Mellitus patient family in Fort Somdej Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke Maharaj Hospital at Roi – Et Province who had family strength score less than 25th percentile. They were randomly assigned into two groups equally: an experimental group and a control group with five family members in each. The instruments which were used in this research were the measurement test of family strength in Diabetes Mellitus and the interventional program of the Family System Theory group counseling. The interventional program included 10 sessions. Each session lasted about 90 minutes. The research design was two - factor experimental with repeated measures on one factor. In fact, the study was divided into 3 phases: the pre - test phase, the post - test and the follow - up phase. The data were analyzed using repeated measure analysis of variance: one between - subject variable and one within - subjects variable and were tested to pair differences among means with use of the Numan - Keuls Procedure. Result: The results revealed that the levels of Family Strength in the study and the control groups were significant interaction at 0.05 level when measured in the post - test and the follow - up phases. The levels of Family strength in the study group in the post - test and the follow up phases were statistically significant at 0.05 level from these in the pre - test phase.
