Abstract

Postpartum is critical period for women to adapt themselves to normal physiology and mental health. Without adequate knowledge and experience of postpartum changes may cause stress and problem during this period.  Providing knowledges and more information to these women may get better understanding and proposing for  more postpartum follow up. Objective: To compare the postpartum follow up rate at Phramongkutklao Hospital after  havind new postpartum education and old pattern of education and to evaluate personal factors that affect postpartum  follow up rate. Materials and methods: After delivery 160 women were offered study enrollment with informed  consent by separating into two groups. The first group (n=80) had got new postpartum education which add  more information about the postpartum visit while the second group (n=80) had got old pattern education that  were routinely use in postpartum ward. The postpartum follow up rates between both groups after 4 weeks of  delivery were compared and the personal factors that affect postpartum follow up were studied. Result: The firstgroup with new postpartum education had 85.0% of postpartum follow up rates while there was 51.2% in the second group. There was a statistically significant (p = 0.001) for the postpartum follow up rates in the first group with  new postpartum education compare to the second group. The level of education is the most important factor that  affect in postpartum follow up. From the study the women which graduated bachelor degree is the group that shows the highest affect of all factors on postpartum follow up rate. Conclusion: The new postpartum education to women after delivery has improved the understanding how important of the postpartum visit and resulted in   ncrease postpartum follow up rate. The educational level is the most affected personal  factor that influences the  postpartum follow up rate.
