Outbreak Investigation of Conjuctivitis in Pig Breeding Plant in Songkhla Province

Abstract

On 11 May 2018, the Occupational Unit, Hat Yai Hospital received a report from the pig breeding plant in Songkhla province about four case of  conjunctivitis and have been send to ophthalmologist at Hatyai hospital to diagnosis as conjunctivitis and then they recived a treatment. The outbreak investigation results that we found 10 cases of Probable case and 2 cases of suspected case. Overall 16 cases of conjunctivitis from 28 staffs. The result of hydrogen sulfide level in west water sump  are 0.3 ppm on 7 July 2018 and 6 ppm on 9 July  2018 that can cause eye irritation. Safety officer had policy to drain west water 2-3 times per day  since 10 July 2018 and she had policy that every staff should wear personal protective equipment. After that, we found almost the staffs have improved the symptoms of conjunctivitis. The conclusion of outbreak investigation of conjunctivitis may from hydrogen sulfide in west water sump.
