Main Article Content
Abstract
Further studies in nursing are important to retain professional nurses and enhance their skills. The literature search revealed that there are not many studies on this phenomenon. The aim of this survey was to investigate the readiness to open graduate programs in the Faculty of Nursing, Praboromarajchanok Institute and the need for further studies in nursing at graduate level. The sample consisted of 30 directors and 1,216 nurses who are alumni of the nursing schools. Data were collected using online surveys and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the nursing schools within the faculty of nursing under Praboromajchanok Institute were willing to open graduate programs in nursing. There were 313 faculty members with doctoral degrees. The average number of academic papers in the last 5 years is 4.65 articles per person. Seventeen nursing schools also had readiness to provide learning resources. The sample was ready to pursue further studies in nursing (43.00%). The majority of the sample wanted to study in adult and geriatric nursing (41.30%), in ordinary graduate study programs (79.50%), and on weekend (57.60%). Nursing education institutes should provide graduate programs that meet the needs of learners and provide adequate faculty members as well as learning resources to enhance the competencies and desirable attributes of the learners. This will lead to good nursing outcomes for the population.
