Abstract

This study was a quasi-experimental study with two groups pre-posttest design. The objective of this study was to study the effectiveness of cervical dilation manikin on the accuracy of cervical dilatation examination of students. The sample consisted of 70 students from Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Chakrirat who were divided into a control group and an experimental group, of 35 participants each. The control group received normal instruction. The experimental group received normal instruction and a simulation model to study cervix dilation. The research instruments consisted of 1) a personal questionnaire, 2) a cervical dilatation accuracy test, and 3) a manikin for cervical dilatation examination. The reliability of a cervical dilatation accuracy test using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was .78. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results showed that the mean score of accuracy in the experimental group after the experiment was significantly higher than that before the experiment (t34=5.93, p<.01) and it was significantly higher than that of the control group (t68=15.53, p<.01 ). The developed cervical dilation manikin should be used in the student’s practice in the lab session before practice in the ward so the student can assess the dilatation of the cervix correctly.
