Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate complications in patients undergoing spinal surgery at Prasat Neurological Institute. This study was retrospective research. The sample consisted of 2,089 patients undergoing spinal surgery who have met the inclusion criteria from October 2014 to September 2019. Data were collected through medical and nursing documentation. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data.

Results: The postoperative complication was constipation (51.2%), anemia from blood loss (33.1%), hypo-magnesium (15.4%), and hypokalemia (14.7%). Most aesthetical complications were nausea and vomiting (19.6%), then sore throat (9%), and pressure ulcers (4.2%). During surgery, the problems showed cardio-vascular deficiency (45%), urinary impairment (15.8%), and hematological disorders (10.5%).
