Abstract

Abstract

          Monks are a group that is more prone to health problems, especially chronic diseases. Problems with drug use and health products in the temple include using the wrong drug, found a dangerous drug in the sermon set, the behavior of drug use together among monks non-compliance resulting in danger to the monks such as adverse reactions from drugs. Objective to study situation and organize a surveillance system for medicines and health products within the temple. Method of study is action research, data were collected by interviewing with questionnaires from a sample group of monks in the Pathumratchawongsa area of ​​all 31 temples conducted during April-May 2021. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics.

          The results showed that a total of 110 monks had chronic disease 26.36% including diabetic and hypertension, 48 and 2%, respectively. 45% used the wrong medication, such as collecting pills in jars or without pill bags, break the pill by biting, stop taking the medication or adjust the dose, chewing pills from belief. Reserving 77% of the medicines used in the temples was obtained from sermon set, and 10, 0.2 and 9% of dangerous drugs, antibiotics, analgesic drug or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were found, respectively. 48% of herbal medicines were used, namely, Andrographis decoction. Storing medicines depends on ease of use. Deteriorated and expired drugs were found at 10.55 and 11.08%, respectively. Network participation causing a surveillance process to manage more risks, including having a patrol in the temple, monitoring drug use and providing knowledge in the community, honorable mention for the temples that have been assessed. This mechanism resulted in no inappropriate drugs or health products found in the temple. No patients from drug use or health products were hospitalized. There has been an inappropriate surveillance system for drugs or health products by the network.

          The process for effective use of medicines in the temples is integrated from 3 sectors, namely the people sector, the government sector and the social sector, to drive the implementation to be successful through the participation of district health board mechanism. Expand the results of work development in other areas of the issue of rational use of medicines and the safety of the monks in the temple.
