Factors affecting the performance of public health consumer protection of Village Health Volunteers in Samut Songkhram Province

Abstract

Abstract

          The objectives of this survey research were to study: (1) personal factors, work attitudes, knowledge of consumer protection and work support factors of village health volunteers (VHVs); (2) the level of performance of public health consumer protection of VHVs in Samut Songkhram Province; and (3) The relationship between personal factors, work attitudes, knowledge of consumer protection, work support factors of VHVs with the performance of public health consumer protection of VHVs in Samut Songkhram Province. This research was studied between March – May 2023. The population was 2,238 VHVs in Samut Songkhram Province. 374 VHVs were selected by multi-stages random sampling technique. The instrument of this study was a questionnaire. Statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentages, means, standard deviation, minimums, maximums, and multiple regression analysis.

The results revealed that: (1) most samples were female, with average age of 53.35, agriculturist, having an average income of 8,133.71 baht per month, finished high school or equivalent, married, Buddhism, having social status as village committee and having average working duration of 13.65 years. work attitudes, knowledge of consumer protection and work support factors were at a moderate level. (2) the performance of public health consumer protection of VHVs was at a high-performance level. (3) factors affecting the performance of public health consumer protection of VHVs are the occupation as self-employed, having social status, work attitudes, work support factors that consist of receiving training from public health officials and receiving supervision from public health officials. The five factors can predict together the performance of public health consumer protection of VHVs 50.6 percentage statistically significantly at a level of 0.05. (p-value = 0.012). The recommendations from this study were: (1) supporting VHVs’ leadership development. (2) screening of the qualifications of VHVs in all aspects. (3) foster positive attitudes of VHVs through training, discussions, role models and persuasion. and (4) preferably support training, budget, knowledge, equipment, and a mentor to co-operate or work together.
