Abstract

Currently, the use of cannabis and hemp is more widespread. This makes it easier for youth with curiosity to access them. Thereby, the use of cannabis by people under the age of 20 must be illegal because the brain is still not fully developed and the THC in cannabis has long-term effects. Therefore, the research team studied the effectiveness of a cannabis and hemp awareness-enhancing program. With educated knowledge about the facts of cannabis and hemp, provided learning materials, and supplied self-study materials.

The purpose of this study was to compare the knowledge and attitudes about cannabis and hemp among 8th grade students before and after participating in the cannabis and hemp awareness-enhancing program. This study was approved by the Human Research Committee of the Saraburi Provincial Public Health Office. This study was a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was 8th grade students in a classroom of three schools in Saraburi province who were selected by multi-stage random sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire, consisting of three parts: the general information part, The knowledge about the facts about cannabis and hemp, and the attitude towards cannabis and hemp. The instrumental test gave an IOC in the range of 0.97–1.00, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.193. In this study, descriptive statistics were used to analyze the personal data. Mean, percentage, and standard deviation were used. And to compare the samples' mean score of knowledge and attitudes about cannabis and hemp before and after participating in the program, we used the Paired Samples t-test with a statistical significance level of 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. From the study of 183 samples, the findings indicated that the percentage of knowledge scores after participating in the program increased in cannabis general issues, cannabis legal issues, and medical cannabis use issues. The comparison of the mean scores showed that the cannabis and hemp awareness-enhancing program could significantly increase knowledge and attitudes about cannabis and hemp (p-value = 0.002 and p-value = 0.006, respectively). However, cannabis and hemp awareness-enhancing programs had to be based on the situation at the time
