Resilience and burnout syndrome among dental nurses working in Sub-district health promoting hospitals, Chonburi province

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to investigate the relationship between personal factors, resilience, and burnout among dental nurses. The study was conducted in the dental nurses working in sub-district health promoting hospitals in Chonburi province. The sample group consisted of 64 dental nurses with at least one year of work experience. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researchers, adapted from the Department of Mental Health questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, were used for data analysis. Inferential statistics, including the Chi-square test and Pearson's correlation coefficient, were also employed.

The results showed that the participants had an average age of 32.25 years. The majority was single (70.31%), held a bachelor's degree (92.20%), had a monthly income between 10,000-20,000 baht (62.50%). Most had worked for 5-10 years and over 10 years (39.06%), and held the position of dental public health technical officers (56.25%). Overall, the participants exhibited a normal level of resilience and a low level of burnout. The analysis revealed that both age and resilience were negatively correlated with burnout ( = -0.262 and -0.665, p < 0.05). Therefore, to mitigate burnout among dental nurses in Chonburi Province, interventions should focus on enhancing resilience to decrease the likelihood of career change, transfer, or resignation among these officers.
