Abstract

The purpose of this cross – sectional study is to examine health - promoting behaviors and factors predicting health-promoting behaviors among based on the Health Promotion Model. A cross – sectional predictive study was conducted among 131 pregnant women selected by Convenience sampling. The instrument were questionnaires on health-promoting behaviors of pregnant women and factors related to health-promoting behaviors. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.867 for the health-promoting behaviors questionnaire and 0.840 for the factors related to health-promoting behaviors questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.

The findings revealed that pregnant women exhibited good health-promoting behaviors in
five areas: health responsibility (M = 3.32), nutrition (M = 3.15), interpersonal relation (M = 3.27), self actualization (M = 3.26), stress management (M = 3.33) and moderate in one areas: physical activity (M = 2.73). Factors that significantly predicted health-promoting behaviors included individaul characteristics and experiences ( p < 0.001) and behavior – specific cognition and affect influences on health-promoting behaviors (p < .05). Interpersonal influences showed no significant correlation or effect on pregnant women's health-promoting behaviors (p < .05). The predictors explained 40% of variance in health-promoting behaviors (Adjusted R² = 0.390).

The findings highlight the importance of cognitive-perceptual factors and personal experiences in predicting health-promoting behaviors and may support the development of targeted antenatal health promotion programs.
