Abstract

Background : No study was to determine the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in Type 2 diabetes and to identify independent risk factors associated with the presence of decreased kidney function in MaharajNakhon Si Thammarat Hospital.
Objectives : To determine the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in type2 diabetes in MaharajNakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and risk factors which influence kidney function in type 2 diabetes.
Materials and methods : A retrospective study of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who attended the medicine clinic at MaharajNakhon Si Thammarat Hospital from 1 January 2016 – 31 May 2016.
Results : A total of 3461 adult type2 diabetic patients had CKD 1018 (29.4%):21.7% with stage 3 (12.8% with stage 3a and 8.9% with stage 3b),4.2% with stages 4 and 3.5% with stage 5. Estimated GFR was calculated by CKD-EPI formula. The prevalence of these patients with albuminuria was 44.8% (12.4% microalbuminuria and 32.4% macroalbuminuria). The following variables were significantly associated with CKD were age, duration of diabetes
mellitus, waist circumference,a previous history of hypertension or cardiovascular disease.
Conclusions : Chronic kidney disease is highly prevalent among adult diabetic outpatients attending in MaharajNakhon Si Thammarat Hospital,Clinical characteristic in present study demonstrated as a tertiary health care setting. Intensive and optimal treatment of diabetes to slow the progression of long-term complications should be effectively managed by a disciplinary team.
