Factors predicting Low Birth Weight Infants in Thungsong Hospital, Nakornsithammarat Province

This study aimed to determine predictive factors for low birth weight in infants who were born in Thungsong Hospital. This retrospective study analyzed the matching case and control in a database of medical records between October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015 and including 500 cases. The pairs of case and control were matched by age of mothers. A control group of 250 cases and study group of 250 cases were analyzed by using Binary analysis with Odd ratio calculation and forecast by a Conditional logistic regression with OR adjusted with estimated 95CI of OR adjusted at significant level of test at 0.05.
The study found that the most influence factor of low birth weight infants was maternal weight gain during pregnancy increasing not more than 10 kgs. It had a risk of low birth weight infants 6.3 times of the weight gain increasing more than 10 kgs, The following was gestational age at birth less than 37 weeks, the risk of low birth weight infants was 2.6 times. The other variables had no enough information to identify the relationships with low birth weight infants in Thungsong district, Nakornsithammarat province. The variables can predict 16.0% of low birth infants. Health workers may be conducted these factors to improved service and research to reduce the long term low birth weight infants problems and leading to further analytical research for better explanation.
