1-Year Mortality in Aged Hip Fracture Patients after Conservative Treatment

The retrospective study of 70 aged hip fracture patients admitted at Samutprakarn hospital between Oct 1st, 2005-Sep 30th, 2006. 45 patients were surgical treated and 25 patients were conservative treated. At 1 year after admission, the entire 1-year mortality rate was 27.1%. 5 patients (11.1%) in the surgically treated group died and 14 patients in the conservative group died. The hazard ratio was 7.06 (95%CI 2.54-19.68 p<0.05). The doctor who deals with the conservative treatment should inform the patient and their relatives.
