Outcome of primiparous teenage pregnancy in Phuket Provincial Hospital

Abstract

              The retrospective analytic study aimed to compare the outcome of primiparous teenage-pregnancy and adult-pregnancy affected both
obstetric complications and neonatal outcomes. All data included demographic data, complication, and neonatal outcome were collected from medical record and delivery registry of Phuket Provincial Hospital during November 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013. (N = 200) Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and Chi-square to compare the difference between the outcomes both of them (p < 0.05). The result showed that there were no significant difference between the ratio of normal labor and operative obstetrics and maternal complications before delivery. For the postpartum complications, the result showed that significant difference in maternal complications after delivery (p < 0.0001) and neonatal complications. (p < 0.05) Even though this study showed no maternal complications before delivery between two groups, but the result indicated that anemia was the major problem in teenage-pregnancy although the majority were received antenatal care accordance with National Health Security Office (NHSO). Therefore, it could be strong emphasized the prevention of
anemia for teenage-pregnancy to increase efficiency and security. Moreover, it also found significant difference of the neonatal complications between groups. Due to the limitation of data could not determine the relation or relative risk of neonatal complications; it has to be studied further.
