Abstract

This cross sectional analytical research aimed to analyze the relationship between allogenic blood transfusion in knee and hip arthroplasty with many variables (age, BMI, underlying disease, preoperative Hb level, blood transfusion before surgery, operation, not received tranexamic acid injections, operation time, intraoperative i.v. fluid, intraoperative blood lost, respectively). Research samples were 98 patients (knee and hip arthroplasty cases) during 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2017.Data collected by record form. Descriptive statistics were frequency, percentage mean and standard deviation, an inferential statistics were Chi-square and Fisher’s exact test respectively.
The result revealed that variable of age > 70 years old, BMI < 18.5 kg/m2, underlying anemia, Preoperative Hb level <10 g/dL, preoperative blood transfusion, hip arthroplasty cases (cemented bipolar hemiarthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty), not received tranexamic acid injections, Intraoperative fluid >2,000 ml, Intraoperative blood lost > 250 ml. related with allogenic blood transfusion.
