Factor related with accessibility to medical rehabilitation service for stroke at Krabi Hospital

Abstract

              Objective: To study the characteristic of acute stroke patients, factors correlated with access to medical rehabilitation service
              Study design: Retrospective descriptive study
              Setting: Krabi hospital, Krabi province
              Subjects: All acute stroke patients were admitted in Krabi hospital during 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016
              Methods: The patients’ general information, diagnosis and rehabilitation were extracted from medical records. Chi-square was used to compare data between rehabilitation and non-rehabilitation groups to determine factors that correlated with rehabilitation consultation.
              Results: 659 acute stroke inpatients, were cerebral ischemia 73.1%, cerebral hemorrhage 26.9%, rehabilitation consultation 282 patients (42.8%). Factors related with rehabilitation consultation were hospital acquired pneumonia, ward and discharge status.
              Conclusion: Limited access to medical rehabilitation service was found in acute stroke. Factors that related with access to medical rehabilitation service were hospital acquired pneumonia, ward and discharge status. The problems were founded that were small amount of physiatrist consultations, lack of medical record information of physical examinations and lack of health care providers especially occupational therapists.
