595-nm Pulsed Dye Laser for the Treatment of Facial Lentigines

Abstract

595-nm PDL is one of the popular non-ablative lasers for facial rejuvenation. Recent addition of compression handpiece (CHP) allows treatments with minimal adverse effects.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 595-nm PDL in the treatment of facial lentigines. 10 subjects were enrolled in this study. One side of the face was treated with one pass of 595-nm PDL 6 J/cm2, 6 ms. Then, lentigines were individually treated with CHP. The untreated side served as control. Photographs were taken and the number of lentigines was analyzed by VISIA®. All subjects were female aged from 39 to 55 years with moderate photodamaged skin. There was improvement of lentigines by global assessment at 3rd month (p = 0.008). The mean change in number of lentigines on the treated side was -6.1, while that of the controlled side was +2.8 (p = 0.075). Hyperpigmentation was found in 2 subjects.
