A study on the effectiveness of an emollient containing dexpanthenol in treatment of hand contact dermatitis
Keywords:
hand contact dermatitis, dexpanthenolAbstract
Hand dermatitis is a common problem and its history is often chronic. There are many evidences that support the efficacy of dexpanthenol when applied topically in a variety of dermatological disorders. These included: skin abrasion, chronic ulcer and diaper dermatitis. The stimulation of epithelialization were the most prominent effects of dexpanthenol formulations.
To evaluate the effectiveness of an emollient containing dexpanthenol in the treatment of hand contact dermatitis. Fourty participants with chronic hand contact dermatitis were enrolled and divided into 2 groups: The treatment group was given an emollient containing dexpanthenol whereas the control group was provided with a cream based emollient each of which lasted for 8 weeks. The completely recovery of hand dermatitis patients in the treatment group and the control group after 8 weeks of the treatment period were observed among 60.0% and 15.78%, respectivley.
