A STUDY ON WELLNESS TOURISM POTENTIAL OF GOLF COURSES FOR SERVICING FOREIGN TOURISTS IN THE UPPER NORTH REGION

Abstract

The objective of this study was to study wellness tourism potential of golf courses for servicing foreign tourists in the upper north region. The combination of tourism components and marketing mix was used in this study. The study was conducted under quail-quant technique by studying primary information through internet, printed matters. The samples were golf managers and foreign tourists from 12 golf courses. The research instruments were questionnaire and interview form with content validity (IOC) range from 0.67-1.00. The data were collected by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.


Results were found as follows: 5As tourism components 1. Attraction: golf courses were with beautiful scenery, surrounded by mountain with cool weather. They equipped with facilities, impressive services and reasonable price. 2. Activities: most golf courses had no other activities. 3. Access: most standardized golf course offer airport shuttle bus from and to golf course. 4. Amenities: only available in large golf courses. And 5. Accommodation: ranging from 3 to 5 stars. Marketing Mix 4Ps 1. Product: each golf course had its own prominent point, for example, beautiful mountain scenery, Doi Suthep view, lake, and hilly green. 2. Price: green fee varied with green size. 3. Place – sale: advertise through Facebook, Web site, Tour Company, tour agency, golf magazines, brochure, leaflet and commission payment to tourists’ rental car. And 4. Promotion: green fee, caddy and golf car discount, gift voucher/coupon and other sale promotion from golf course co-operation.
