MEDIA EXPOSURE, PERCEPTION, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIORS PROTECTING DISEASES AND HEALTH HAZARD OF THAI CITIZENS IN 2018

Abstract

              Communications about disease and health hazards is one of major missions of Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health. This cross-sectional survey research aimed to study the media exposure, perception of information, knowledge on disease and health hazards, protecting behaviors and factors related to behaviors protecting diseases and health hazard of Thai Citizens in 2018. The samples consisting of 2,889 persons from all regions of Thailand were randomly chosen with stratified multi-stage sampling. The data were collected from the implementation of the developed questionnaires and statistically analyzed by computation of percentage, average, standard deviation and pearson’s correlation coefficient.


          The results showed that the samples exposed of media was at the moderate level. Top 3 sources of information with the highest accessibility for samples were: Television and Cable TV, Public Health Staff and Village Health Volunteer. Perceptions of information, knowledge on disease and health hazards and behaviors were at the high level. It was found that the media exposure, perceptions of information and knowledge on disease and health hazards had positive relationship with behaviors protecting diseases and health hazard (r = 0.381, 0.477 and 0.348 respectively) The results of this research can be used to plan systematic communication on health hazards and the development of people’s health behavior including the development of public communication systems for enhancing the perceptions of information, knowledge on disease and health hazards in order to strengthen peoples' appropriate behaviors protecting diseases and health hazard
