FACTORS RELATED TO PARTICIPATION BEHAVAIOR IN TREATMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS OF THE KNEE FOLLOWING OA KNEE LAMPANG MODEL IN LAMPANG PROVINCE

Abstract

This analytical cross-sectional study is to observe the behavior participation among patients in the treatment of osteoarthritis in Lampang Province and to explore the relationships between health beliefs of osteoarthritis patients in treating osteoarthritis according to OA Knee Lampang Model. The study was carried out at four traditional Thai treatment clinics and the alternative medicine clinics namely, 1) Ko Kha Hospital 2) Wang Nuea Hospital 3) Sop Prap Hospital and 4) Lampang Provincial Health Office.  A survey was conducted between June, 16 - 30, 2019. A total of 190 participants were surveyed, and most of them were 140 females (73.7%) with an average age of 63 years, with 72 participants (37.9%) under the age of 60 years and 65 participants (34.2%) aged between 60-65 years. The participation behavior in treatment according to the OA Knee Lampang Model showed an average value of 3.8, which was considered to be in a good participation behavior level. Health belief pattern in participation had the average score of 3.8 , which was considered to be at a high level of awareness. Factors predicting the chance to participate in treating osteoarthritis was found in patients who affected by osteoarthritis for both legs for 5.291 times lower than patients with osteoarthritis in only one leg (OR 5.291; 95% CI 2.063-13.572; p-value= 0.01). The participants who had moderate awareness of the obstacles tended to participate 4.497 times more than those with high awareness of the obstacles (OR 4.497; 95% CI 1.844-10.965; p-value=0.01) The participants who had high education tended to have participation treatment behavior 3.8 times  higher than participants with moderate and low education (OR 3.818; 95% CI 1.024-14.239; p-value=0.046).
