Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) develop a training model using sports games to encourage teamwork behaviors of students in the Institute of Physical Education and 2) to study the effectiveness of the model in the promotion of their teamwork behaviors. Integrating qualitative and quantitative methods, this research was conducted in three stages. First, background information was studied to enable a model design based on academic principles. Second, the training model was designed, constructed and in the final stage, implemented with the sampling group, 40 students of the Institute of Physical Education, Bangkok campus, selected as a purposive sampling from the Faculties of Sports Science and Health, Liberal Arts, and Education and student representative committee to test the effectiveness. The instrument was a survey questionnaire and the descriptive statistics used to analyze the data were percentages, means and standard deviation values using a T-test (Dependent).

Results indicated that; 1) the training model was comprised of rationale, objectives and 11 activities aimed at promoting teamwork behaviors and 2) in terms of the effectiveness of the model, the teamwork behaviors of the students in the pretest were rated as high level with 3.07 and in the posttest as highest level with 4.52. Therefore, after the training, the rate of teamwork behaviors was higher at the statistical significance of 0.05.

It can be concluded that the training model designed by the researcher for the students in the Institute of Physical Education is effective and can hence be applied in other contexts to promote teamwork behaviors.
