THE CAUSAL FACTORS OF SELF-HEALTH CARE BEHAVIORS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SOUTHERN PROVINCIAL GROUP ON THE ANDAMAN COAST

Abstract

This research aimed to study 1) the current status of self-health care behaviors of high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast, 2) the causal factors of self-health care behaviors of high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast, and 3) the influences of the causal factors towards self-health care behaviors of high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast. The data was conducted using mixed methods research. For quantitative analysis, the data was collected from 565 high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast in the academic year 2019, using structural equation modeling approach with LISREL software. For qualitative analysis, the data, it was from 30 high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast in the same academic year, using ATLAS.ti software program to obtain the data which supported the quantitative data.


Findings revealed that the current status of self-health care behaviors of high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast depended on 4 causal factors including incentive source, health care attitudes, knowledge about health care behavior, and environment conducive to health promotion, respectively. For the attitudes about health care of the students, it depended on 2 causal factors including environment conducive to health promotion and incentive source, respectively. As for knowledge about health care behavior of the students, it depended on 3 causal factors including incentive source, environment conducive to health promotion and health care attitudes, respectively. Findings also revealed that the environment conducive to health promotion was an influential factor which passed on knowledge about health care behaviors and attitudes about health care to self-health care behaviors of high school students in Southern Provincial Group on the Andaman Coast.
