TOURISM BEHAVIORS OF PERSON WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITY IN BANGKOK METROPOLIS AND VICINITY

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study the tourism behaviors of person with physical disability in Bangkok Metropolis and vicinity. A group of 400 persons with physical disability in Bangkok Metropolis and vicinity were accidentally chosen as samples from 9 disabled people's organizations. The tool used in the study was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by statistical computer program in terms of frequency and percentage. It was found that most persons with physical disability were male, aged between 46 - 55 years old, single and their, level of education was under high school and uneducated, wuith career in freelance, a monthly range of 5,000 - 10,000 baht. The majority had a physical disability caused by accident and used wheelchair. Concerning tourism behaviors, they would find travel information from friends and acquaintances. Their favorite attractions were natures, for example, waterfalls, seas and mountains. They often talked and recommended one another about the attractions with conveniences for the disabled. They usually searched for routes and how to travel well before leaving home. Most took a trip with their family using their own car. On their return, they would talk about the problems they faced concerning the access to the tourist sites and these would be considerations for their next trip. They usually chose to stay at hotels or resorts. The most important decision factor depended on the convenience provided for the disabled. Most persons with physical disability did not like traveling with travel agencies. If they were to take a package tour, they would choose the agencies which provided facility for them. They usually took a picture while traveling and chose the activities to gain some knowledge. They did not use postal service or public telephone in attractions, but they used ATM service in attractions.
