Abstract
The objectives of this quasi-experimental research were to develop and study the effect of leisure education program on volunteering in high school students. Samples were 377 students in Her Royal Highness Priness Soamsawaii School who were selected by using the criteria of sample table (Krejcie & Morgan, 1971: 670) from 18,215 students (22 schools) in Pathum Thani province. Then purpose sampling was used with seven schools from the big size school (1,500 - 2,499 students), as well as Her Royal Highness Priness Soamsawaii School was selected by simple random sampling (drawing). All 377 students were assigned to test the volunteering questionnaire. The test scores were arranged from the highest to the lowest, picked up 30 students who had score above the mean score, and 30 of those below the mean score by match – paired method into experimental and control groups (30 for each). The research instruments were: -1) volunteering questionnaire - the content validity was approved by 3 leisure experts (IOC = 0.80 -1.00), and alpha coefficient reliability correlation (Cronbach) was 0.95; and 2) the leisure education program (8 weeks, 1.30 hour / week) – face validity was approved by 3 leisure experts in the appropriateness level. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and t - test.
Findings revealed that: - 1) the leisure education program possessed appropriateness to enhance volunteering in high school students; and 2) after attending the 8-week leisure education program, the experimental group had over all volunteering higher than the control group did at the significant level of 0.01. When considering each item of volunteering, the experimental group had higher volunteering than the control group did at the significant level of 0.01. It can be concluded that the leisure education program effected on volunteering in high school students.
