Strategies of Sports Center for Excellence in Institutes of Physical Education

Abstract

This research objectives were as follow: (1) Study the actual operation of sports center for excellence (SCE) in Institute of Physical Education (IPE). (2) propose strategy of SCE in IPE. and (3) Study feasibility of the proposed strategy. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed. In quantitative approach, population was stakeholders of SCE in IPE comprised of administrator, sports coach, and athlete. 296 stakeholders were stratified randomly sampling. Instrument consists of questionnaire and interview. Percentage, mean, standard deviation were used as statistics for data analysis. In qualitative approach, focus group was used as the data collection by having six IPE administrators as group member. At the last part, Delphi technique was used to examine the validity and congruence of strategies approval.

Three major results were found from this research: (1) actual operation of SCE in IPE was most appropriated in overview. When consider in each aspect, welfare, public relation, and research were moderate appropriated but another aspect was most appropriated. Analysis from interview results were concluded that: the SCE lacked of policy for determine relationship with community, including lacked of strategy implementation; the athlete development process of SCE in each campus was contrasted with operation framework; the SCE lacked of systematic administration and management related to facilities, and the SCE didn't has completely administrative management in the competition; (2) the strategy of SCE in IPE composed of 4 strategies: developing administrative management for excellence in IPE; establishing and developing sports personal for achieve maximum competence; developing sports venue, equipment, and facilities for services supporting, both practices and competition; and building experience of competition and tournament arrangement. (3) feasibility of the strategy approval indicated that strategies were very good and feasible to implement.

In conclusion, actual operation of SCE in IPE has difference administrative

management in policy, personal, facilities, and competition event. The proposed strategyshould be applied because quartile range not least than one point five and congruence value was very good.
