PROBLEMS OF MUAY THAI JUDGING IN THE SOUTHERN PROVINCIAL GROUP

Abstract
This research aimed to study problems of judging in professional Muay Thai in the Southern provinces on the topics of referee, competition management, mentor, boxer, audience and boxing master. Populations used in this research were 119 professional Muay Thai referees in the Southern provinces, who had already been trained and registered with the Sports Authority of Thailand. The sample group was professional Muay Thai referees in the Southern provinces, who had already been trained and registered with the Sports Authority of Thailand. The number of 92 referees was obtained by multi - stage sampling. The research tool was questionnaires, open - ended questions with content validity and rating scales. The index of Item - Objective Congruence for questions was 0.09 and the reliability was 0.97 based on Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient method. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics including percentage, means, and standard deviation as well as one – way ANOVA.
The results of the study showed that the most respondents about judging in professional Muay Thai in the Southern provinces aged 35 years and over, which were 69.6 percent, followed by 30.4% of the respondents under 35 years old. The most respondents with 10 years or more of experiences as professional Muay Thai referees in the Southern provinces were 57.6%, followed by professional Muay Thai referees in the Southern provinces with 5 to 10 years of experiences were 42.4 percent. The overall of judging in professional Muay Thai in the Southern provinces was at a high level and considering each aspect, it was found that audience and boxing master, competition management, boxer and mentor were at a high level, while referee was at a moderate level. The overall of problems of judging in professional Muay Thai in the Southern provinces were classified by ages of the sample group. It was found that they were significantly different at .05. However, when considering each aspect, it was found that the first aspect was referee, the second aspect was competition management, and the fourth aspect was audience and boxing master were no different problems.
