DEVELOPMENT OF A PHYSICAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL APPLYING SELF-DETERMINATION THEORY AND MULTI-SPORTS APPROACH TO ENHANCE PHYSICAL LITERACY FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract
This research objectives were 1) to develop a physical education instructional model applying Self-Determination Theory and Multi-sports Approach to enhance physical literacy for primary school students and 2) to study the quality and effectiveness of a developed physical education instructional model. The research methodology was divided into six steps, including 1) Studying problems, approaches, theories and other related information to develop a physical education instructional model, 2) Analyzing and synthesizing data regarding approach and theory enhancing physical literacy to establish the components of a physical education instructional model, 3) Developing a physical education instructional model to enhance physical literacy for primary school students, 4) Examining the quality of a developed physical education instructional model, 5) Studying the effectiveness of a developed physical education instructional model, and 6) Presenting the results of a developed physical education instructional model. The samples consisted of 37 fifth-grade students of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School. The research tools were 1) a physical education instructional model to enhance physical literacy for primary school students,
2) a physical literacy test for 10-12-year-old Thai children. Data was analyzed using statistics including mean, standard deviation, and one-way repeated measures analysis of variance. The results demonstrated that 1) a physical education instructional model consists of 5 components including (1) objective, (2) principle of an instructional model, (3) stages of learning management, (4) essence of learning management and (5) measurement and evaluation of learning management. 2) a physical education instructional models’ content validity was 0.88. 3) All four components of Physical literacy, including physical, cognitive, psychological, and social domains, were significantly different at the 0.05 level. The conclusion was therefore drawn that a developed physical education instructional model applying the Self-Determination Theory and Multi-sports Approach was qualified and effective to enhance physical literacy for primary school students.
