Abstract

Community-acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Children without Risk Factor: A Case Report

A 3 - year old Thai boy presented with neck mass for 10 day diagnosed as right submandibular lymphadenitis on admission.  After intravenous cloxacillin was administered for 3 days, fever was still high and the neck mass larger and more inflamed so incision and drainage had been done.  Histologic examination showed acute supportive inflammation.  The pus culture revealed Staphylococcus aurous resist to penicillin, methicillin, and fosfomycin but sensitive to chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, cotrimoxazole, erythromycin, gentamicin and vancomycin. The patient was treated with oral cotrimoxazole for 10 day with complete recovery.
