Abstract
Objectives: To determine the prevalence and risk factors of renal scar in pediatric patients with urinary tract infectionand vesicoureteral reflux.
Material and methods: Clinical and radiologic data of children under 15 years old with urinary tract infection andvesicoureteral reflux (VUR) who were admitted to Vajira Hospital between 1 January 2545 and 31 May 2553were analyzed.
Results: There were 34 cases of VUR, 19 boys and 15 girls. The median ages were 1.25 and 2 years respectively formale and female. The prevalence of renal scar was 38.23% (13/34 cases). Boys had more high-grade VUR(VUR grade IV-V) than girls but there was no statistical significance (p=0.091). Patients over 1 years old hadhigher risk of renal scar than those younger than 1 year old without statistical significance (p=0.718). The onlysignificant risk factor for renal scar was high-grade VUR, with odds ratio of 5.625 (95% CI 1.24-25.49)
Conclusions: The prevalence of renal scar in children with urinary tract infection and vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)was 38.23%. The significant risk factor of renal scar was high-grade VUR.
