Evaluation of Expanded Program of Immunization Coverage in Children Age Below 1 Year of Prakanong District, Bangkok

Objective: To evaluate and study about implementation of collecting data for expanded program of immunization coverage (EPI coverage) in children age below 1 year that lived in Prakanong district, Bangkok.
Study Design : Descriptive Study.
Subjects: One thousand two hundred and sixty eight children who delivered in the year 1999, lived in Prakanong district and came into Well Baby Clinic of Health Centers that locate in Prakanong, Bangna Suanglaun and Klongtaey districts or have census record in Prakanong district, Bangkok but could be survey only 866 children (68.29%). The study was done between January - May 2001.
Methods: All subject data were collected from direct interview, immunization records and OPD card of the Health centers.
Main Outcome measures : Percentage of target groups who received BCG vaccine, hepatitis B vaccine, poliomyelitis vaccine (OPV), diphtheria, tetanus toxoids and pertussis vaccine combined (DTP), measles, mump and rubella vaccine - live (MMR) and complete immunization following EPI program (1 BCG, 3 hepatitis B, 3 OPV, 3 DTP, 1 MMR).
Results: EPI coverage of children age below 1 year who delivered in the year 1999 in Prakanong district, Bangkok showed of complete immunization = 92.15% and complete immunization of vaccine BCG, Hepatitis B, DTP, OPV and MMR = 100%, 95.72%, 96.53%, 96.53% and 92.15% respectively.
Conclusion: EPI coverage of children age below 1 year who delivered in the year 1999 in Prakanong district, Bangkok was 798 children = 92.15% that showed of effectiveness and reach to the target (not less than 90%).
