Comparative Study of the First Year Nurse Students Achivement and Satisfaction in Small Group Teaching and Lecture Methods of the Fundamental of Nursing

Objective: To study the achievement and satisfaction of first year nurse students toward the small group teaching and lecture methods.
Study design: Quasi experimental study.
Subjects: The 138 first year nurse students Kuakarun College of Nursing who studied the fundamental of nursing had been taught with two different methods in academic year 2000 from December 2000 to February 2001.
Methods: Collecting data from subjects were 70 students in group 1A set in the small groups. Each group was composed of 9-10 students. All studied from situation and then discussed. The 68 students in group 1B set in lecture class. After the completion of the both teaching method and examination, the 2 parts satisfaction questionnaires could be used. The first part was about general information. The second part was about students' satisfaction on the two teaching techniques. The data was analized with SPSS program for Windows.
Main outcome measures: Statistical mean of achievement and satisfaction of two teaching methods.
Results: Statistical means of achievement of both teaching groups were similar. Satisfied level was in the range of high satisfaction and average points of both teaching methods satisfaction were not different.
