Abstract

Factors Influence on Facilitation Delivery and Dystocia

Objective: To study the factors influence on facilitation delivery and dystocia of primigravida pregnant women on body size, physiological changes during pregnancy  and psychosocial domain.

Study design: Survey research.

Subjects: These samples were deliverd at Taksin Hospital during October 2000 - September 2001 and sampling with criteria: primigravida, singleton, normal delivery, vertex presentation and no complication. By Quata smapling 50 cases who met those criteria in each group of facilitation and dystocia delivery and accidental sampling in each group criteria: facilitation delivery group 22 hours.

Methods: In the second day of postpartum that interviewing were approached and using accidental sampling technique by facilitation and dystocia characteristics which divided into two groups. Of 50 case in each group were interviewed about characteristic of working during pregnancy, delivery anxiety, anomality baby, age, gestational age, gestational weight gain, ANC record, delivery record and pelvic diameters.

Main outcome measures: Percentage of characteristic of working during pregnancy, the comparison of maternal body size, physiological changes during pregnancy and psychosocial factors of facilitation deliverly and dystocia groups.

Results: The results revealed the factors which effect on facilitation and dystocia were characteristics of working during pregnancy with p-value of  < 0.01. In facilitation delivery group showed that the major of working characteristics were physical moving such as working or standing (92.00%) and sitting (88.00%) in dystocia delivery group. The other significant factors with effect on facilitation and dystocia delivery were maternal body size; height, pelvic diameters: intercristal and external conjugate diameter with p-value of < 0.05, 0.05 and 0.01 respectively. The factors of physiological changes during pregnancy and psychosocial had no statistically significant effect on facilitation and dystocia delivery.

Conclusion: The factors effect on facilitation and dystocia delivery were characteristic of working during pregnancy, height and pelvic diameter: intercristal and external conjugate diameter.
